Trigger warning: mention of bullying
This guest feature is brought to you by the creator of @motivation.empowerment.gal on Instagram (make sure to check it out for your daily dose of inspiration!). In the piece, she tells us the steps she took to become more empowered as a teenager, and how a recent break-up motivated her to become more positive!
My teenage transformation
I’m a German law student, which my journey led me to studying because of some unfair things that happened during my teenage years.
After being bullied at school, I wanted to do something impactful and show the world that I am, in fact, empowered and powerful. At 15 years old, I started my personal “glow up” by dressing more elegantly, wearing make up, studying hard and generally becoming very confident.
I transformed from an unhappy wallflower into a powerful and confident person.
When it comes to becoming more positive, the turning point was actually my boyfriend and I breaking up a few weeks ago (which led me to start my Instagram page). He was a pretty negative person who saw the dark side of life and made everything harder.
I realized that I was happier after the breakup because it was better for my future, mental health and personal growth to be without him. I also realized that I don’t need anyone to make me happy, that I can do it myself. Like that, I became more positive.
Since the break-up, people around me have commented on how much I’ve changed. Many tell me that I’ve become wiser and more mature, but some think I’ve become arrogant.
My top tips for others
- Find your purpose and something you are good at.
- Realize that your mental health is important and care for it like you do your physical body, with self-care and positive affirmations.
- Treat yourself
- Surround yourself with good people
- If something does not fulfill you or make you happy, just don’t do it
