Lockdown inspired me to become more (not less) positive

Trigger warning: mention of bullying & anxiety

This week’s guest feature on Free to Spiel is by the founder of lockdown_teens (make sure to check her Instagram page out if you’re looking for a splash of colour and positivity on your feed!). The writer talks about how, rather than being dragged down by negative news, the pandemic has inspired her to pursue a happier life.

When I was a child I used to be so happy. However, I was bullied and developed anxiety at school, which I’ve been struggling with ever since.

For me, the turning point was when lockdown happened. Watching all the miserable stories on the news made me feel as if I needed a more positive approach to everything! Therefore, when I set up my Instagram to help anyone struggling through lockdown, it was also to help me look at things more positively!

People around me say that I’m more confident and definitely happier than I’ve been in a long time. Even though 2020 has been a rubbish year for everyone, there has been so much good and I think people have really found themselves and developed.

My top tip for others is to try and look for the positive side of things. Even when you’re having what feels like the worst day ever, try to pick out 3 things that were good about the day and 3 things that you are grateful for; over time you will start seeing the positive side of life.

Of course, there will be some parts of life that are negative and will make you feel like you will never feel happy again, but I believe that you will get through it!
